The GFOA-PA West Region cordially invites you to our Annual Holiday Luncheon. Please join us for this event to engage, unwind, and catch up with your GFOA-PA colleagues. The luncheon will include an engaging educational presentation from Amie Downs, Communications Director,  Allegheny County.

No matter how you celebrate, make sure your communications don’t land you on the naughty list. Get tips and strategies to ensure that neither the 12 Days of Christmas nor the 8 Crazy Nights of Hanukkah pass you by.

One CPE credit will be offered for the session.

Bring a dozen of your favorite cookies for a fun cookie exchange at the end of the session.

About our Presenter

Amie Downs, Communications Director
Allegheny County

Amie Downs is the Communications Director for Allegheny County, a position she has held since January 2012 when County Executive Rich Fitzgerald took office. In that role, she is responsible for coordinating all media responses, press outreach, communication, and messaging from the departments and offices under the Executive branch and coordinating with her colleagues in county authorities and boards.

Prior to assuming her current role, Amie served as Chief of Staff to State Senator Wayne D. Fontana for nearly seven years. During her tenure with the Senator, she served as the Executive Director of the Community, Economic & Recreational Development Committee, worked on the team that drafted the table games legislation, and drafted numerous pieces of legislation, including a bill enacted to further strengthen child abuse laws in Pennsylvania.

Previous roles included positions with Allegheny County Council as the Director of Legislative Services, where she was responsible for formalizing the Council's legislative process and drafting portions of the Administrative Code.  Amie also worked for six years at the Allegheny League of Municipalities and was responsible for legislative tracking and coordination of the bi-annual conferences, including program content and speakers. Amie is a licensed Pennsylvania attorney, earning her Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law. She graduated with honors from Carlow College (now University) with degrees in Communications and English and a minor in Sociology. In May 2016, she was selected as a Carlow Laureate, an award given to distinguished alumni with at least ten years of professional experience and documented professional successes/achievements.

While a student at Carlow, Amie was selected to participate in the National Education for Women (NEW) Leadership Program at Rutgers' University Eagleton Institute of Politics. When the national program was spun off into state programs, she staffed the Pennsylvania Center for Women & Politics at Chatham University in its first few years. She has also served as a guest speaker at CWP since then and is frequently asked to speak to organizations about the role of women in government and politics.

She has been a board member for a variety of area organizations. Currently, she serves as a member of the boards for the Pittsburgh Film Office, the Allegheny League of Municipalities, and Carlow University.
